The Tiny Desk Contest, NPR Music's annual search for the next great undiscovered artist, is back! First, let's meet this year's esteemed panel. Returning judges Bob Boilen (Tiny Desk series creator and All Songs Considered host) and Bobby Carter (Tiny Desk series producer) will be joined by five new experts: The inimitable Sharon Van Etten, who performed behind the original Tiny Desk in 2010 and then played again at today's Tiny Desk; Baby Rose, who graced the Desk with her incredible voice in early 2020; fellow Tiny Desk alum Sudan Archives, a gifted singer and violinist whose sound pulls from R&B, hip-hop and experimental electronic music and, last but not least, Albina Cabrera of KEXP, a champion of independent musicians and Latin American music.

Jaden Smith’s decision to use fashion to express recent issues in society didn’t fare too well with his father, Will Smith.  Jaden is known for his outlandish style, which shines through his music videos and red carpet. In 2016, Jaden turned heads when he became the face of Louis Vuitton’s womenswear. The deal came after Jaden wore skirts in public as a teenager.  Jada Pinkett Smith explained during an episode of Red Table Talk that she and Will Smith had different views on Jaden’s fashion look.

Winningly goofy but blemished by behind-the-scenes tinkering, The Lost Kingdom is disappointing in the usual sequel way. The last thing a patient viewer will see before the houselights rise on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a giant robot tussling with monstrous tentacles — the vanity card of director James Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster. The snippet of animated kaiju mayhem is very much in the spirit of the movie it closes, a Saturday-morning cartoon of a blockbuster with a pronounced ’50s sci-fi influence, a real War of the Worlds quality.
